Gorgeous announcement, Stel!

And are those trapeze ladies flying over a racetrack with a circus in the middle?

I know it’s a bit early, but I’m posting the cake…

Have some dinner first!

….

Not you Dorothea… it’s your birthday.

If you want to spoil your appetite with cake, rock out!

But make a wish first!

At 1:00am Pacific i’m getting up so i can go to PDX and get on a flight to Texas for seven days.
…via one stop in California…
It’s going to be one dang long day. Anyway, have fun. I plan to, eventually! 😀

Good travels, Happy. I am on a red-eye to Phillie on Thursday night for my sister’s funeral, returning Friday night. Tough at my age. But my wife is having surgery on Monday so I have to get back pronto.

Tough all around. Hope the surgery goes OK, and she’s feeling good enough to say she missed you when you get back (but not feeling so good she says, “Why did you come back so early?” like my wife might tease me).

Sorry to hear about your sister, Dennis.

I can’t say “Have a good time”, of course… so I’ll just say I hope you can make the best of it… and please be careful!

Thanks Alexi. It’s a hip replacement so I hope she will feel much better after than she does now.

Thank you Candi. She was the oldest of five, I was the youngest. We had a few good years with her after her first diagnosis and treatment, and we are grateful for that.

So, so sorry about your sister. Hope all goes well for your wife. I’ve heard a hip replacement is easier than a knee replacement. Wishing her the best. Have a safe trip!

Thank you Rita. She had the good Polish name Veronica, named after my mother’s mother.

Happy birthday, Dorothea ! !

When the festivities get too raucous, take a short 10 minute break and watch the only original colour Betty Boop cartoon.

Happy Birthday Dorothea. Since I’m an irregular like you, I don’t have a good feel for your likes and dislikes, so I’ll go with a more shy look. Might even scrape my toe on the ground in embarassment or something like that.

Next Monday is Thanksgiving, so I’m once again posting the link to the stuffing ball recipe I’ve used for a while now.
I cut the spices in half, because I found the amounts to be too much for my taste when I first made them (If perkycat makes them she’ll probably double the amounts    🙂    ). Too, I don’t use the celery greens, just the stalks; and while either works, I prefer using chicken broth. If you freeze any, the spices will gain in strength as well; I’m not kidding.

STUFFING BALL LINK

It being Pumpkin Month….( information about archaea and a Dairy Farmers of Canada recipe for crème fraîche to supplement the attachment)

The following quote …
Archaea are a group of micro-organisms that are similar to, but evolutionarily distinct from bacteria.
Many archaea have been found living in extreme environments, for example at high
pressures, salt concentrations or temperatures. These types of organisms are called
extremophiles.

…comes from     … HERE

A recipe from the Dairy Farmers of Canada website     HOW TO MAKE CRÈME FRAÎCHE AT HOME

Note from me:
Use your stove’s cold oven. Cover the bowl, any oven has a top vent that will let in dust and flies when cold. Leave it for the 24 hours.

Thank you, everyone! This is really getting my birthday off to a great start. Fabulous variety of cards. Can’t pick a favorite, so I won’t.

Love the spread of food, but it’s way more than I can eat so please dig in and help yourselves.

The cake is decorated with my favorite color – that should remain nameless here. It’s so beautiful. Nighthawks, enjoy that rose…and the cake too.

Happy trails, HappyHappyHappy.

Dennis, may your trip be safe, as well as your return home. So sorry for your loss. May your wife have a speedy recovery.

Soon, I’ll be enjoying Eggs Benedict on buttermilk biscuits instead of English muffins (a twist we learned about in New Orleans several years ago) and bubbly for breakfast. Slow-cooked lamb shanks for dinner (decided when the weather forecast was colder but I got such a hankering just thinking of them that we kept to the original menu plan). With luck it really will get to the mid-70s and I’ll be able to enjoy them out on the porch.

The one downside for the day is I have a work-related meeting this morning (after the bubbly so it won’t be too bad LOL). I’ve been so demanding about when to schedule meetings and my boss has been so cooperative, I didn’t have the heart to scream NO! Especially since 2 others are involved, too. Can’t believe I’m still working at my age. (Hint – there were only 48 states when I was born.) But I love the job and can’t walk away. Part-time, mostly on my terms.
