Eek! Trying to track them down, I saw similar pictures of different ones and no definitive label for these… but they’re all species of what are called ‘garden eels,” and sometimes, though AFAIK it’s not scientific, “spaghetti eels”.

They live at various depths, depending on location and species, but it seemed to range between maybe 10 and 70 feet.

They look small in the picture, but most of the species grow to between two and four feet long!

Said to be harmless, they burrow into the seabed, and “stand up” like this to feed, retreating into their burrows when startled or threatened.

I hope you were already on the right side of the street when it started.

Meanwhile… I dunno know what that oncoming car is trying to do… But you should never drive into standing water, when you don’t know how deep it is.

It looks like he’s headed straight for that parked red car… I hope not!

Not only dogs, but there are caricatures of all sorts of well known people and characters, including Queen Elizabeth II, and… Okay, I’ll let you decide for yourselves.

I marked a few, by no means all… I wouldn’t know them all anyway, and probably certain drawings look more recognizable to some of us than to others.

Happy hunting!

Here’s where I found the 3 dogs and a handful of people i think I recognize

Over here we had ‘Woolworth’, ‘Blockbuster’, ‘Toys ‘R’ Us’, and ‘RadioShack’, Which was renamed ‘Tandy’ for the UK, but most of the stuff was branded ‘RadioShack’.

Tandy Corp, which owned Tandy Leather, a hobby leatherwork store, became the parent company of Radio Shack, taking the same approach to electronics…

That is, selling kits and parts, and small amounts of supplies to hobbyists instead of finished leather goods or electronics, though RadioShack did become a retail computer store as well, selling computers branded Tandy.

The Tandy TRS 80, affectionately nicknamed the Trash 80, was one of the earliest popular home computers, along with early model Commodores and Apples.

So we had all three names, for one thing or another.

It’s funny… the first time I went to a Radio Shack, it was pretty new. They still weren’t selling finished products, except for things like tools, and maybe flashlights.

There were little bags of screws and switches and small coils of wire, so you didn’t have to buy large amounts. I said to the cashier something like “Wow, this is like the Tandy Leather of electronics.”

He looked at me like I was an idiot, and told me it was owned by the same company.
Oh.

Hard to believe they’re all gone.

The first four, I thought would be here forever, though Wards and Woolworths have actually been gone a long time.

I truly miss Mervyn’s… And in the last year or two, we lost my favorite dollar store, 99¢ Only, plus Bed Bath and Beyond, and Big Lots.

I do have to say that I’ve never heard of Zayre or Ames, and only vaguely of Service Merchandise, so they can’t all have been everywhere.

We did have all the rest here in town, except Sam Goody and Tower.

We’ve seen this before… or maybe I saw it elsewhere. I just remember that I saw comments accusing the photos of being faked.

But they’re not… They’re from a police display of actual helmets that had saved people’s lives in accidents.

A master pumpkin carver!

Imagine doing all that on something that’s going to shrivel up in a week or so….

But I suppose it’s no different from sand, or ice, or all the other temporary things people carve.

Wow! Another blast from the past… from my brief career as a basset actress with Cleo and Company and/or Clifford Family Productions!

That was before they got so famous all the big name basset talent wanted to appear in their movies… in fact, they were willing to use a lowly human like me.

Aside from having to squeeze into the hot, furry basset costume, it was a lot of fun. And of course, the puns were fun to help write..
