…is the full answer versus my shorthand answer from habit.
It may be a Canadian thing, (I doubt it, but who knows?) but ordering “eggs over easy” or even “eggs over” will get your answer delivered to the table in any restaurant in Canada.
Doing the mathematics says I’ve eaten in over a thousand different restaurants over my years on the road (the years on the road were fun).
1 Split second timing
2 This could be “The ♫ start ♪ of something big♩♬”
3 Pie in the sky
4 Missing you
5 Head for cover
6 Hands up
7 Two eggs over easy
8 ….. (I dunno)
9 Either getting up in the middle of the day, OR getting up at the break of day… opposite meanings but IMHO either works.

At first glance, I thought the critter had its mouth fully around the railing. It made for a grotesque, troubling image.

Your answer to nine is right, I’m sure!

We mostly agree but
A song title.
And I think Stel and I have #9.
You’re right 🎯 on both counts! !
Well….
Though it doesn’t say so here, probably because we have a puzzle ripped from the page on which it was presented….
the idea usually isn’t just definitions, but finding common expressions and phrases.
Some turn out to be well known song, book or movie titles, as well, especially ones that get used in conversation.
….
Someone might possibly say “something too big” in some sort of sentence, but it doesn’t strike me as a common expression….
and I don’t think it’s well pictured in the clue, either. There’d be no reason for “big” to be cut off.
“This could be the start of something big”, OTOH, is a well known line from a song, and probably the title of it, that is often quoted as a joke.
i got two
me too.
Up to four.
i’ve figured out 6 answers. gotta run… doctor’s appointment.
Excuses, excuses….
3 now.
Hmm…OK, before I peek at anybody else’s….

Thanks Alexi. I printed it so I don’t need to rely on my memory.
I think your version might be the best…
Congratulations!
I like it better than mine, even though I think maybe it was intended to be
But it sure isn’t a great clue, if three or more answers all make obvious sense.
Even if we had a solution guide, the puzzle creator’s intention wouldn’t necessarily be “correct”, if another interpretation worked better.
From yesterday:
I don’t think it’s its call we’re hearing, but here’s the bird in action.
Yer right. But whatever it is my Lovebird freaked out.
Will Perro save Maria Voluptuosa? Will they fall in love? Stay tuned!
Will the next pope be Catholic?
Will he pee in the Vatican?
I can see sympathy in Toronado’s eyes as he looks at Fernando.
Good night people and pets.
¡Cleomigas y Cleomigos…. Perro™ rides! Perro™ rides again!
A plot is hatched…
I’m not sure where it’s going, because I don’t know how pretending to be ill could save la señora from a bullet…
But then, I’m not our caped campeón, who spits in the face of danger!
…
Nor am I a bad-ass swordsman who rides to save villagers from evil-doers, like Perro™!
um… wait… I do not mean Perro™ himself is an evil-doer… let me rephrase that…. to save villagers from evil-doers…. like um…like Perro™ does.?.
Oh, never mind… you know what I mean.
…
Meanwhile… Perro™ is confident….
Fernando might call it “cheeky.”
He is glad to be of service… but he has no desire to turn his other cheek…
…
In fact, hearing the words “bad-ass” …. it strengthens his resolve to not turn any more cheeks,
but to guard all three of his remaining ones….
and not sacrifice any of them to Perro™‘s whip or sword.

Mr and Mrs Tigressy.
Good for you!
I think I’d pass on the practice whip target.
Good morning Perro phans! Guess what day it is..…
Let’s go to Virginia and have a hoagie and a creme filled donut.
Y’all have a great mid week. (((((HuGz!)))))
Well, there goes my having a beer tonight.
When i first saw the list i read Viagra Day.
I was half ready to believe that.
Why not? They have a day for everything else. 😀
let’s hope Fernando doesn’t ‘help’ Perro with any more practice sessions!
