A little too little, and a little too late…. but almost too real.
The news is pretty sad, right now.
A fire called the KNP Complex is now burning into some of the giant sequoias. Unthinkable to lose them.
They’ve actually wrapped aluminum around the bottom of the largest one… the General Sherman …to try to protect it. It’s the biggest tree in the world.
…
I have friends who voluntarily left their very small mountain town just north of Paradise, CA, in July, with their dogs and cat, when the Dixie Fire was 10 miles away.
I THINK it never came much closer, but now I can’t get hold of them. The fire is still burning but mostly AFAIK on the other edge.
They’d been evacuated for weeks in 2018, by the Camp fire.
Paradise was mostly burned down, and their neighborhood was left with about every other house standing.
They didn’t know whether theirs was gone, till they were allowed to drive back up to see.
….
Luckily it was OK… but their neighbors on either side were burned out. They had no phones or electricity for months.
I don’t blame them for not wanting to stick around this time.
Who is doing all these montages of artists and subjects? Tonight Girl with Pearl Earing is taking tea with Van Gogh, and I do not recognize the setting. Anyone have a clue?
When Stel(?) posted the “Baywatch” one I posted that I had tracked it down to Romanian artist Dan Cretu.
He’s known for, among other things, very clever photographs, transforming vegetables and fruits into household objects… and household objects into other things.
More recently, he’s done a series of paintings incorporating iconic images into modern settings.
I’ve seen half a dozen others…
Since they all use some of the same “characters”, and are equally very skilled, I want to assume that the car scene and today’s cafe are also his work…
….
But there’s always danger in assuming, and so far, I haven’t found pictures of those specific paintings attributed to him.
So I’ll downgrade my assumption to just saying that it seems very likely that he created all three that have been posted here.
I never saw video of Millie Small. I always thought she was about 12 years old.
Killing me Softly… I have a history with this song. Once taught an introductory Anthro class where I had one day to devote to the arts. I used this song to show how important it was to allow for interpretation and projection in an artist’s work. In conjunction with the book, The Sorrow of the Lonely and the Burning of the Dancers. (which I wish could have been an article). The book describes how young men would visit another village and sing mournful and beautiful songs that reminded the listeners of their young men lost in war. The listeners would be so moved that they would attack the dancers with torches. If you can see the connection between this and Roberta Flack, you would have gotten an A.
I know! Like some Grouplove song where the guy is just yelling (e.g. Colors). Or a terrible Paul Mc Cartney lyric with a badly forced rhyme (I don’t want to bring that into my memory).

The girl is from a 1665 Vermeer painting, roughly 200 years before Van Gogh was born. I guess he’s mad because the coffee got cold in the intervening centuries.
.
Feed me, Seymour.
Look at those ears! 😀
He/she is as cute as a button!!!!
(S)he’s got a beautiful face.
What’s so cute about buttons, anyway?
Whadya mean? What’s more adorable than a “Button”?
awwwwwwwwwww. sweet as Cleo!
California fire insurance supplement
That’s not a half-baked idea either…
Who are the owners? The Taters?

Stay safe. Maybe Susan Sunshine needs to make room for Rainy Renee?
We can only wish.
We have very light rainfall in my area this weekend… So far less than the 10th of an inch we desperately need, and already waning.
…
Besides, I’m about 25 miles from the coast… I.e., 80-100 miles from any fires at the moment (knock wood)…
Not sure how they’re doing in all the various, more inland, fire zones.
…
I just read that today, it’s getting even closer to the Giant Forest…. only about half a mile away from the edge of it.
The trees that burned were outside that designated area.
I hope the aluminum wrap works! It is terrible to lose those trees. Of course the loss of houses is also tragic, but they can be replaced.
Here’s my earworm for tonight:

Arf, were you trying to post Maria’s Richland Woman with the Kweskin Band?
Love this song. Especially the “rumble seat”.
Funny, I tried to reply with the correct link, but my reply disappeared. Anyway Arf, I think you meant to post this – another favorite!
They’re both there now, and working fine.
It wouldn’t open, Arfside, but I think Dennis has you covered!!
Doubly.
Here’s my contribution.
Good night people and pets. 🙂
A nice duet! Two opposite types of voice.
That is a welcome earworm!
I know…right? It’s been a few hours now, and it’s still playing in my head!!!

Café Terrace at Night by Vincent van Gogh
Thanks Stel!
If the starry sky had been included I would have had a clue!

Even Cleo is shocked at Claude’s earworm, and I didn’t anything could shock her!!
Yeah, yeah…..THINK!!
That’s what happens when I try to comment in the middle of the night!
“think”?
Or “do anything that could”…
Claude needs to get to the vet,,, STAT!
He desperately needs de-worming.
Don’t try Q-tips, Claude… not only will any doctor tell you it’s not safe to poke them in your ears…
that thing would probably just eat them.
Uh oh. I see an ivermectin reference coming.
…
butterscotch pudding
never cared for butterscotch.
That’s okay. More for me.
EEWwwwww. No ear worms.
I’m sure Claude is happier getting rid of his earworm than most of us with ours.
Ew
Good morning, Cleoites and Ms Susan!
Talk like a Pirate Day
Butterscotch Pudding Day
Y’all have a YARGH day.
Well, blow me down….. i forgot that this was our pirate talking day.
I love earworms. Keep me company all day if i let them.
now, claude’s kind……….wouldn’t like them at all!
My earworms tend to be songs I dislike.
I hate that! That or a jingle from some stupid commercial.
