Nighthawks aren’t related to other hawks or falcons. I’ve seen a flock of them once swooping and turning to catch insects. They fly like swallows, it’s amazing to see.

Cool birds.

In this case, though, I think our Nighthawks was named after a painting…

“Nighthawks”, by Edward Hopper.

And the nighthawks after which the painting was named were not birds, but the human denizens of an all-night cafe.

For some reason only known to themselves, ‘Top Cat’ was renamed ‘Boss Cat’ here in the UK, though the theme tune still said ‘Top Cat’ in the lyrics……

Top Cat was based on ‘Sgt. Bilko’ if I recall correctly.

‘Top Cat’ was the name of a brand of cat food and the BBC, who broadcast the show, could not appear to be endorsing a product. Things like that were taken very seriously back then!

That would do it. Can’t recall that brand, but I was young and our cat was fed on food my father used to get from the market.

A lot of shows nowadays are dominated by product placement whether they’re on the BBC or not 🙁

Today’s Songs:
‘Hippy Hippy Shake,’ ‘Hollywood Nights,’ ‘Hooked on a Feeling,’ and ‘Hot For Teacher,’ and the ‘Cheap Thrills Cuisine’ recipe ‘Arugula Endive Salad.’
@ —comment image, (belated congratulations to you and Dorene) were you in Seattle when J.P. Patches used to call ‘Blue Swede’ the ‘ooga – chucka’ singers?
I’ve also posted an extra today; the original ‘George of the Jungle’ cartoon theme song (J.P. Patches’ show is where I first saw them). Those early 2,000’s cartoons are a misuse of the character’s name (the movie wasn’t bad though).
Edward Van Halen, Alex Van Halen and David Lee Roth are credited with ‘Hot for Teacher.’

I love both popular versions of Hooked on a Feeling, but, by virtue of being rarer I like the Blue Swede version more.

Unfortunately, I grew up with Captain Kangaroo and Officer Joe Bolton. I came to Seattle for grad school in 1974, and don’t think I had a TV. Over time I have learned about JP Patches through osmosis, but not having grown up with JP and Gertrude still differentiates me from the natives.

Don’t feel bad… I’ve never even heard of JP Patches….

And I’m mostly, though not totally, allowed in polite society.

Well, make that partially, but not under 60%.

I think.

Howdy Cleo Pals and Puzzle People (you can be either, or hopefully, both)….

Saturday night again, and after a short hiatus, we once again have a new New Yorker puzzle from StelBel!

I’m wandering through, at the moment… my Internet is being pokey, and the videos above are refusing to show up, so I’ll be back..

But while I’m here, I’ll leave you with the solution.

I’m going to confess that I didn’t find this one easy!
But you can do it!

Try your best and when you just have to peek… try for a little longer.

THEN you can feel free to check the solution…

Right HERE!

It’s already drawn right there on the street, in the puzzle.

What I don’t know is how they can play shuffleboard on asphalt.

It’s been years since I tried it, but as I recall, it needs a really smooth surface so the pucks(?) can slide.

Where’s the tenth one Susan? As far as I can see you’ve marked nine differences, but the caption says ten!

I ended up with five, can kick myself on three that I missed.

It took me a while to see what is probably the same difference you’re missing.
I copied all of the six I didn’t get from Susan’s solution and circled the one I think you may be missing in yellow instead of green.

I marked ten differences….

I’d guess the same as Alexi, as to which one you missed… It’s rather small and it wasn’t easy for me to distinguish from another one.

But if that’s not it, I can’t tell which ones you saw or didn’t.

So if that didn’t answer the question, let me know and I’ll type out a list of all ten.

I’ve built a new cat bed for my cat Ivy. I’m going to line the bottom with cardboard and put one of her blankets on the top. The long open side will face the storage heater in the hallway, and be positioned a couple of inches away. The bed area is 2′ x 15″, so a bit too small for Cleo….. 😉

She has a cardboard box positioned in front of the storage heater at the moment, but this will be better for her.

Being a cat, she probably assumes it’s all the result of her innate superiority, rather than luck….

and that you are only there to provide such things as are due her.😁

Lucky cat!

I’ve never had “leftover” sashimi, certainly not long enough for a cat to get it.

If by some rare chance it makes it out of the restaurant, and then home…

It disappears before it’s safely in the fridge…

Maybe I’ve kept a few bites long enough to become a midnight snack, but I’m not sure.

True.

My dog slept on a tiny hooked rug on my bed, by my feet.

When she couldn’t jump onto the bed at nine years old, I put the rug on the floor, and she slept on it.

So I bought a cuddly dog bed for her, and put her rug in it.

She slept on the bare floor beside it.

Had to go to a memorial today. Forgot to close (or didn’t fully close) the door to the spare room. When I got home, Cookie had helped herself to 5 tomatoes. There goes dinner for a couple of nights next week. So far, no ill effects, but I did have to clean juice off the carpet in the living room.

I geta 404 error message.

I thought my browser wouldn’t recognise that it was a link, because there’s no http:// or .com

But it did try… except for saying”the requested URL can not be found.”

In the browser on my PC, the whole link appears as a popup in the lower left corner of the screen (M$ Edge). The whole link appeared there.

It’s handy to just glance at that before clicking on any link, just to make sure they match and the printed one isn’t spoofed or hijacked.

Thanks, yes, that’s a handy thing.
On my PC I use Firefox, and it does the same thing.

But my computer is down, and I’m currently doing everything on an android tablet, using the Samsung browser.

I actually like it better than mobile Firefox, but neither provides that marginal information about links (and paths, as well) that you see on a PC.

I’ve had to figure out how to do several things in ways that are different from what I’m used to.

But at least I can accomplish some online tasks I once didn’t think I could without Windows.

That just takes me to the Google Sign In page on the browser I’m not signed into Google on, and a 404 (Like Susan) on the browser that I am signed in on 🙁
