You’d think a record on a cereal box, with the grooves facing out into the world, would be scuffed out of any playability by the time you brought it home, ate the cereal, and cut it out
But I’ve heard they worked fine… If listening to the Archies was fine.
They came on boxes of various sugary Post cereals, and people still sell them on eBay.
Couldn’t get any info on this one except that it was included on sites with titles like “New York City in the Rain”, and “26 Rainy Day Pictures.”
I’m guessing she’s hailing a cab. I hope everybody has good brakes.
I had a friend… well, sort of a friend…. many years ago who had moved out here from New York City.
She didn’t drive, but neither did I or most of our friends. We did a lot of walking.
She couldn’t believe.. in fact it annoyed her to no end… that we all waited so obediently for traffic lights, even though California had, at the time, some of the most pedestrian-friendly laws in the country. The pedestrian technically had the right of way at any unmarked intersection (not any more) but we all waited politely for cars.
She said nobody waits in New York.
Now, this was a long time ago, so I don’t know if it’s still the same… but she said jaywalking was a way of life back there, and if you were going somewhere you just went. Walking together, she’d be across the street and down the next block before I stepped off the curb.
She was a wee little bit aggressive, in a New York kind of way, which led to a bit of a falling out over something else… so I don’t know how that worked out for her.
Okay… I guess I’ll do it again. Why? Because it’s there, I guess.
Most search results for this image, even on sites selling the picture, just said things like “A football player jumps for a ball.” Wow, thanks.
But one site, somebody’s Facebook page, quoted the actual newspaper caption from the picture:
“Packers Aerial Expert. Green Bay, Wisconsin: The Green Bay Packers Mr. Herber, passing expert extraordinary, is shown in action here. He will see plenty of action next Sunday, when the chips are down, when the Packers clash with the New York Giants at Milwaukee for the National Professional Football Championship. The contestants are champions of the Eastern and Western divisions of the National Professional Football League.”
There was no date given… so … since I know nothing about football but for some dumb reason I don’t give up… I googled the matchup.
According to the results…
“The Green Bay Packers defeated the New York Giants 27–0 in the 1939 NFL Championship game at the Wisconsin State Fair Park (the ‘Dairy Bowl’) in West Allis, Wisconsin.”
Wow… William Demarest was one of those actors you’ve seen in everything but never recognize.
He was in… I dunno… 7.2 million movies? A decades long career… And he replaced William Frawley, of I Love Lucy fame, when he later got too ill, as the crusty old uncle on My Three Sons.
And Patsy Ruth Miller played the beautiful Esmeralda, opposite Lon Chaney, in the Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Makes the hair stand up on my arms… but interesting. I do worry about the bees.
I couldn’t catch what attracted them to the box he got them to go into, and why they were so willing.
He caught the queen with his bare hands!! But I never heard him say what he was going to do with her. Give her back, I hope.
Probably use the queen to move the swarm to a transport box.
They’d already flown and crawled into the transport box, quite readily, which is what I was asking about… but the queen lagged behind.
He picked her up, and she was wriggling in his fingers… but he didn’t say what he was going to do.
You might think Cleo could play Bullet, cos she’s pretty much a slug.
But in this case, she’s pretty much the creature kind of slug, not the lead kind.
Rushing is not in her repertoire.
