When I searched the front image, a few places said it was 1927… Just shows you something about trusting image search, because the card is clearly postmarked 1920.
I don’t believe it was showing a photo of the future!
I can’t totally read the handwriting and my French isn’t great… It’s hard to get even Google to translate a word you can’t make out
But AFAIK it says something like “Here’s a hello, or please accept a hello from New York, and soon…. (something I can’t read) your news.
That’s roughly a 30°-60° triangle there so the sun is coming down at a 60° ..I’d be interested to hear how you triangulate longitude with that information.
(Unless it includes numbers AND letters)
let me take this opportunity thank good ol’ Susan Sunshine who contributes many images every day that I turn around and post as my own (because I’m vile)
You might ask, which ones are hers and which ones are mine.
easy.
the ones you hate are Susan’s and the ones you copy and send to your grandkids are mine 😉
Pandas have individual black ovals around their eyes and ferrets, not all ferrets, but the ones that have dark markings have a solid band that goes across their whole muzzle.
In pictures like this, actually most pictures of wild birds, I suppose, there’s nothing of recognizable size… no humans, or cars, and no signs that say “You must be this tall to ride the AstroBlast.”
So you don’t realize from a picture that sandhill cranes are big…. as tall as.., hmm.. maybe 5th grade human children. Up to 5 feet. These little babies might be over a foot tall, more, if they’re older than I think.
They can stand right away, and run within hours… That’s why they’re called colts.
Of all the modern birds, I’m not sure whether it’s sandhill cranes or all cranes, but they’re thought to be the most direct descendants of the dinosaurs, with a fossil record going back millions of years.

“I’ll have whatever the Princess is having.”
“Please thank the Duke for me, waiter…
You may tell him that I accept his kindness, but honestly, I’m not, as they say, that kind of girl….
especially not at our ages…. and even two olives isn’t going to change my mind.”
..
Has to zoom in to confirm the girls weren’t on roller skates!
The Nifty Nook in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1942.
Open all night!
As hot as it gets there, I think I’d prefer the night shift.
Saratoga Springs, NY-1908

Maybe one of you is better at it. 🙂
Voxx?
Accept a Good Day from NY and news from you soon.
You were close Susan and got the jist of it
,,
You should be able to work out your longitude from that (or at least the time of day…)
You first.
That’s roughly a 30°-60° triangle there so the sun is coming down at a 60° ..I’d be interested to hear how you triangulate longitude with that information.

I think so. But I think I was lucky too.
If what I think is a bird is a bird, I see it.
If it’s not a bird, there’s another thing that could be a bird…
But if that isn’t a bird either, then I don’t.
Once you see it, you know.
I see it and you’re right …you can’t miss it once you see it.
Saw it immediately. Nothing hidden about it.
Dang! Came back and it popped right up.
Neither of the ones I meant earlier… No guesswork involved.
…
.,.
I can do that getting off the toilet…
Showoff!
Oh yeah. Operating a motor vehicle is precisely what you should be doing right now.
Go lie down, Hoss. It can wait.
Just a baby birds.
With a feather bed.

Well, they ARE retrievers, after all.

Wood Carving… looks like one side is raised, the other concave… But if you rotate it they switch.

🤣
Now come on… “vile” is a pretty strong word.
But you’re welcome.
And thanks for the thanks.
To be fair, most days way more of the images are yours than mine…
And while your system of knowing which are which could be true… I… um… prefer to think there’s a better way.
If it has planes, bombs, war, or guns its probably not mine… except that makeup pistol… that was mine.
If it’s a banner lady it’s probably mine but not always.
If it’s a moving gif that I can’t follow, it’s from Nighthawks
And if it’s almost anything else, it could be from either of us, and it doesn’t matter anyway… I’m just happy to help keep it going.
Ps… Do try rotating the image.
It’s a cool illusion.
Confirms what I’ve oft thought…
Hmmm … on second thought…. maybe whatever you’ve oft thought isn’t something I should have put a like on…
Nah, nothing like that at all, innocence… it was about the imagings posted…
find the Panda
Looks more like a ferret to me…
Cleo’s namesake
The People’s Choice…
Supposedly starring all grown up ex-child-star Jackie Cooper, but to us kids, definitely starring Cleo.
Never missed it, in my family.
Gee… a wise ass, sarcastic basset hound… Where have we seen one of those before?
Sandhill Crane colts.

Oh!
Here’s Adrian Bliss, one of my favorite YouTubers….
YouTube Shorts don’t post very well here, so I’m trying a different way….
Looking at the picture and before reading what you wrote, it’s hard not to think of the Velociraptors et al.
There’s certainly a family resemblance.
But I also thought of tall fashion models, in thigh-length, high.heeled boots.
I wonder if they’re descended from dinosaurs too.
Scariest part of today’s Cleo comic? Now the cat has the sword…
If we’re lucky, it’s broken to bits. 🙂
