I know it’s nit picking but the artist has the Coke machine reversed … the door for the drinks was on the left side.

We used to sell antiques back when they were very popular in the early 2000s. I mostly sold coolers rather than distributors as they were easier to sell and cheaper. The Holy Grail of Coke distributors was the very narrow one with a push down handle.

I’m sure I’ve seen the door on the right side. What would you poor northpaws have done if the door was on the wrong side?

I’m pretty sure it’s AI.

It’s available from different websites with a blue car or a red one, blue sky or sunset, Roll Tide or Dot’s Diner… must be a stock scene that lets you change details with prompts.

This particular one is available on a Facebook page by a fellow named Gary Webb… who says…

“Alabama crimson tide die hard fans
September 9, 2023
·
I made this 4 years ago, hope you like it. The size can be 8×8″ or 10×10″ or 12×12″. This would make a great mouse pad, I don’t sell them but you can have one made by numerous companies. Just google custom-made mouse pads. Also makes a nice refrigerator magnet. I give my art away because I want people to enjoy having something free about their favorite team. ROLL TIDE ROLL.”

I’m sure he means he “made” it with an AI program… Cos people are requesting different things in the comments, like “Can you put my name on the diner?”

A woman is selling it on Etsy with a different make, green car… It says Dot’s Diner, the signs are different…. And she says it’s from an original watercolor. But she has to be lying!

It’s famed photographer Elliott Erwitt, who took, among other things, two great photos of dogs we saw here, that I said I’d once had on note cards.

But he was famous for a lot of other pictures, as well, like the one on the wall, which he titled “Cohiba Cigar, with Fish.” His work was in magazines as well as museums, and was also collected into many books.

Here, he’s at home in NYC in 2017, age 89, with his own dog.

I just realized… I think he’s offering the dog a cigar.

Maybe so he can take his portrait with it, like the fish.

I searched this last night but forgot to post it…. well … “forgot” being one way to say I was falling asleep…

Of course this is another parody, but a pretty simple one. I couldn’t find credit for it, but I did find the original book.

Not to fault the actual cover artist… But it looks almost as scary with Mommy looming so huge in the back seat, free of the perspective that usually makes back seat passengers look smaller.

Why is she in the back seat anyway, and just what is she planning?

Retro art, apparently used as a poster and a postcard in 1997.
This copy is cut off at the bottom, where it says
Loop “L” Centennial … 1897-1997

A couple of websites say it’s an Arthur A Johnson Reprint Poster… I’m thinking they mean the center artwork… in fact, I think that’s his name in a tiny font, at lower left. I tried searching just that part but didn’t find a date. Looks like the late 1920s.

Small Town Fire Company – Stevan Dohanos, 1949, oil on canvas, for the S.E. Post.

The painting depicts the Center Square (Pennsylvania) Volunteer Fire Company responding to an alarm.

We had a summer cottage in a weird little American town (Point Roberts, Washington — it’s worth a Google) We were in sight of the fire hall — it was amazing how quickly they could get the fire engine manned and away when the alarm was sounded!

Local gal. Used to run from Carthage, MO down through the Ouachitas in the direction of Texarkana. She would sometimes have a farrier put on horseshoes backwards (on the horse) so the trackers wwoud go the wrong way.

I’ve never seen a photo of her smiling!

I just googled it… It’s actually a photo of her posing at Wild Bill Hickock’s grave. An odd occasion for a happy picture.
But then, she was an unusual person.

She wrote a promotional autobiography in which she claimed to have been an Indian fighter with the army… The army denied it.

She wore men’s clothes but spent time as a prostitute, married 2 or 3 times and had several daughters. Maybe.

In fact, she claimed to have been married to Wild Bill for a while… some say it’s true, modern historians are less inclined to believe it. A woman showed up in the 1940s claiming to be their daughter, but as there was no DNA testing back then, you can find believers on both sides.

The funny thing to me is that she was portrayed in so many movies, plays and TV shows by cute, feminine women… Something she was absolutely not

Who can forget this 1953 movie? The reruns were staple of 60s TV and this song an earworm for me since I was a kid..

Franklin D. Basset… a fine leader of the hound pack. And that was a great New Deal he got on kibble, assuring that fewer puppies would go hungry.

He also signed the kibble security program into existence, giving at least a minimum supply of kibble to senior dogs, as long as they had contributed to the dog economy, by, you know, being good dogs and stuff.

( I admit, I don’t really know how that works.. I think they have to apply for a kibble security card, and not chew it up, which is difficult. So we still have to make sure to take good care of our senior dogs.)

Anyway… As ever, things have changed a bit between the panels.
Nine things.
After you find them, you can see what I found..

When I was here last night, our little Revolutionary band wasn’t posted, and I didn’t know it was still on the way.

They’re basset hounds, after all… it takes them a long time to get here.

But that means I didn’t know to post their music… And now it’s late afternoon… even early afternoon on the East Coast.

Oh well, still in time for the fireworks in the continental US…

So if you come back and see this… once again… here’s a little music, for our marching band (right click and open in a new window or tab so you don’t lose the band):

[audio src="https://archive.org/details/MusicOfTheRevolutionaryWar/EarlofDorchestersMarch.mp3" /]

It starts with the tune I thought worked well for such a small band…

If you let it keep going it runs through lots more.

Or you can just go to

https://archive.org/details/MusicOfTheRevolutionaryWar/

and choose your own.

…..

And this is as close as I’ll get to fireworks…. Enjoy!
