I didn’t even notice the reason at first…. I’m so used to Christmas being in the stores for the last month.

Big Lots (now defunct) in this century set up a whole Christmas section of the store every year starting in July.

I remember when we weren’t supposed to think about it… not decorate, not buy our cards, not let the kids make Christmas lists, nothing till the day after Thanksgiving.

But nowadays we’re supposed to be ready to do all our shopping by that day, in the big Black Friday sales… and I got an ad from a store advertising Black Friday starting today!

Target and Walmart both have an aisle of Christmas candy right next to their Halloween aisles.

I’ve given up on being mad.

Well … that kind of “mad”, anyway

The book shop in our library, run by the Friends of our library, hews to that tradition. No winter holiday sales (Hannukah, Kwanzaa, Christmas) before the Saturday after Thanksgiving. (The library is closed on Friday for rug cleaning. LOL)

But…but…but I’ve already done my Christmas shopping!

Really, I have. I don’t do a lot of gifts, just something for my mom. And I saw something back in July and got that for her.

It’s Joan Fontaine!

It’s from “Rebecca”. For some reason, the same picture looks a little better to me in the version I found on its own….

I’d like to know how he knew which jars had honey in them, and how he knocked three off the shelf, but nothing broke…

And then how he not only knew he needed to open a jar, but figured out how.

Bears have a good sense of smell…. But I didn’t think they could pick up a scent through glass.

My antennae are picking up a slight vibration.. of…. I dunno…. human participation?

Those seals aren’t air-tight.

Particularly the plastic ones most of that is shipped in now – which would also explain the lack of breakage, and the ability to get them open. Bears are smart, but still lack opposable thumbs. Glass jars would be a problem. But plastic ones only need to be stepped on to pop like a balloon.

However, I don’t see lids anywhere…

Gosh…. I have no idea about other countries, but here in the US, almost nothing is sold in a jar that’s not air tight!

When I was much younger, you could open a few jars, like dried herbs, cos I remember people sniffing them to check for freshness…. Yuck….but even then, anything liquid or semi-solid, like honey, jam or peanut butter, was sealed tight, usually by a canning process, or it would be subject to tampering in the store, and seeping from the jars in transit.

Often there’s a dent in the lid, called a safety button, that pops up if the seal is broken, to let you know it’s been opened, so you won’t buy it.

It would take a really hard squash to pop the lid of a plastic jar. I don’t see a squashed jar… And why would the bear do that if he couldn’t smell the contents?

There are paper “seals” to indicate the lids haven’t been tempered with.

Yeah right.
I always had to share, but didn’t get anything in return from my elder siblings or neighbors’ children.
Example: Treats for first day of school. I had to share, but they (one year ahead) hadn’t.

The only problem (besides my memory) is …
That doesn’t really look like Michael J Fox to me… but maybe it’s a bad picture, or just my bad eyes… Or I’m not remembering something.

Google Lens gets more useless every day…. the results have started linking to the wrong images…

And sometimes, like now, even when it finds the correct image, it still brings up zero info.

All I could find about this one were comments saying it was a real velociraptor…

But somehow…. I mean, I don’t want to be negative or anything…. but….

Is anybody ready to open up their own can of worms… I mean by starting on this puzzle?

Didn’t worry, I’m pretty sure these worms won’t get out and crawl on your kitchen counter.

Pretty sure. No guarantee.

Anyway, you shouldn’t take anything I say as backed up by the Cleo and Company corporation.

I mean…. I don’t represent the corporation, or its vast resources. I’m just a flunky, sitting in the basement solving puzzles. Every now and then Nighthawks throws me a fish.

Yeah yeah, I get a 7 figure… or is that 12 figure? I never can remember…. paycheck. But even $0,000,000,000.⁰⁰ doesn’t go very far these days.

So here’s how I solved….

THIS one….

It’s kind of a tiny difference, true.

But I saw it, not immediately, but because of the way I do these puzzles, which I’ve talked about…

I don’t rely on my eyes noticing everything, but instead, I pick out items and compare them.

So, in the left panel, I checked, and saw that the hairs line up with the edge of Claude’s eyebrow and glasses frame… on the right they’re farther forward.

Then I double checked their position.along the outline of his skull.

So yeah… a difference.

I thought I’d get some last night because there seem to be a few more small kids in the neighborhood… but nada.

I used to get a few dozen, but it’s been years now.

There were a few big free trick r treat events last weekend… The idea is to keep them safe and off the street. The police and fire departments do one together… I think the malls still do them too.

But because Halloween this year was a Friday, I thought they’d be ready to go out again. I guess they still had enough candy.

I think actually the parents are not letting them go out like we did.

Those fake stories about razor blades started the decline… for 50 years, every generation has been more paranoid (not completely without reason)…

And probably covid was the last straw.

I trickertreated with my younger sister till I was 12. At that point I’d reached my adult height of 5’6″, and some college guys sharing an apartment gave her candy and invited me in for a drink.

Of course I said no… But I gave up Halloween!
