From what I’ve read, the then Prince Charles was not too pleased with the dance.
He was reportedly a bit upset by the sexy, rather than royal, look of her dress, and jealous of her choosing to dance with Travolta, and of the attention given to her by the public and the press. He felt like she outshined him on their tours.
The hopes of the British Nation rested upon his shoulders, and he was, I think, resentful of his “station in life”. But their’s was a strange matching of personalities, diametrically opposites in a way.
But, fear not, Charles is in the photo, I think that is him just behind the hand-clasps, him talking to the lady in the silver top, black dress ensemble… Not paying any attention to Diana, as was the norm, his ego, again… I hope he is now happy with Camilla, I wish him well, but it’s William’s time soon to come.
Yes, that’s him in back… not particularly thrilled about being in the background of a photo of his more popular wife in what he considered an unsuitable gown, dancing with a movie star.
She’d been shy when he married her, and I think he wanted her to stay that way, and not upstage him.
She reportedly wanted to surprise him with her dance… she’d been taking lessons. But he barely watched, and afterward he just said “Very nice dear.”
Let’s hope William’s time isn’t that soon… Charles is “only” 78.
There are several of these “Crinkle-Crankle” walls, as they’re sometimes known, close to where I live.
Straight walls do use more bricks, as the caption says, but mainly because you have to put brick piers in every 10′-15′ or so to keep the wall upright if it was only a single brick (4 1/2″) wide.
Double brick width wall will use twice the amount of bricks as a single brick wall (Without piers). While the total distance covered with this type of wall is further, it’s not twice the distance. The sideways distance between the two peaks is only about 6′, so it will probably use about a third more bricks than a straight single brick wall without piers.
It’s too early to do trig in my head.
Wealthy landowners didn’t stay rich by throwing bricks away.
Sorry…I didn’t see your first comment before i posted mine. I was probably typing at the same time.
I was thinking it would be more than twice the distance…. but I’ll take your word for it.
I was also thinking a single wall more than twice the distance would use more bricks than a double straight one… But I didn’t know about piers… or actually anything about building brick walls.
I used to know a formula… well okay, I didn’t know it, but I could look it up and use it… for calculating the distance along a sine curve, but those days are (very approximately) 216.37 years behind me.
No worries. They’re not hemispheres, if they were then yes, it would be more than twice the length. They’re more like a third of the full circumference of a circle.
Wouldn’t those huge stitches give the ball an odd bounce if it landed on them? It looks a bit out of round to me, besides, but that might be my eyes.
I thought the girls were purposely arranging their skirts to show their knees a little… a high-school-girl sort of thing to do… but then I realized they’re wearing bloomers, not skirts. They were still popular for gym suits in the 20s.
Those 20s, not these 20s. Hard to realize this was taken 100 years ago!

C’mon, hug me…you know you want to!
Hey, the Christmas Basset is a bit slower than Santa Claus. He has to start early.
ARGGHH! I really meant to save that one for December.
It’s okay… He has a Halloween tree.

The NAACB is going to hear about this!
Blatant discrimination!
Down with antibeeism!
and down with Aunti-Beeism!
Well, I hear she didn’t get along that well with everybody on the set, including Andy and little Ronnie.

Gonna have a hard time being fast in those.

“Mmmmmm. Which one’s mine?”
All of ’em!
Heavenly perfume, to a dog.
Looks like pork, with all the fat, a cut you don’t often see on the grill…
A very odd barbeque… open in the middle of the front, with the firebox surrounding the hole.
Only some of the meat is over coals. In fact it looks like there’s paper underneath it on the side nearest us.
I need to stop looking so closely at pictures.
Not uncommon here or in South Korea.

And Roy Rogers claimed he was a real cowboy too…
It weren’t for their hands, I’d think these were wax figures.

I’m surprised a cat would even come sniffing around a bowl of candy…. Unless, of course, there were some Fish Chews or Mouse Bars in there.
…Swedish Fish?
Only if they come in genuine fish flavor. 🙂
I think I see some Hershey Mouse Bars(R) too…
Impressive air!
I just can’t stop watching…and laughing!!!
If you think of a “cougar” as being a “cat”, then, Yeah, impressive air.
To me, that is a cougar…
Yes, it’s a cougar, or as we call them here, a mountain lion….
But they’re definitely cats… so when I said “cat” I meant any cat, including big cats…
And the jump seems impressive for any cat as well, even if to them it’s business as usual.

I always preferred Tommy Rettig…

A happier time…
Who is the dancing dude?

Sometimes being a princess isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Fairly obvious, I’d say.

Anything for his girl.
Just goes to show how light they are.
He’s holding her up with his face.
Coincidentally i recently watched a YouTube video on their evolutionary history. Their closest bird relation is the swifts.
Like Taylor?
Goatsuckes and Oilbirds? My favorite “common” name!
For some reason I’ve always liked “nightjar”, as well, though you don’t hear it much.

Judging by the numbers on the ball, 1925.
Yes, the 1924-25 girls basketball team at a high school in upstate New York.

So the story is real. I don’t buy the open deckhouse on a submarine, though!
They made it out of Popsicle sticks and empty Navy bean tins.
…….
I hope it was staged.
I’m sorry, not sorry. Something about the macabre.
Somewhere in all my saved memes i have one with Ronald Macdonald.
Rivalry on Halloween
Um… say… you don’t have, like.. an age limit on trick ‘r treaters, do you?
I mean I’m kinda… tall for 5th grade, and… um…. very very prematurely grey…

One of the scariest pages on the Interwebs….!!!!
It’s hard to tell if you meant to post this image (of a 404 error) or your image link didn’t work! 😄
Yes!
Great Grey Owl.
‘Death on silent wings’ for those small animals who’s existence tends to end in a small, damp, ‘Squeak!” *

I have an audio book collection of Discworld books that I recently started listening to in my car and when I go walking. Absolutely hilarious stuff!
I have the full set in paperback and audiobooks!
