There were stick figure M&M mascots that came and went over the years… But those cartoon “spokescandies”, and that word, were invented in the mid 1990s, not 1954.
I had been the manager of an Ethel M chocolate shop in the early 90s, owned, but not directly managed, by the Mars corporation.
They closed all their California retail locations in 1993, but sent us a Mars corporation newsletter for a couple of years, and Christmas cards. Gee thanks.
Anyway I remember them announcing the new spokescandies in the newsletter, so we could be excited. Right.
The wires at the top of the pole are going to the right, so that will naturally pull the pole over in that direction. Normally you’d put a stay wire and ground anchor on the left of the pole to keep it upright. In places where there isn’t enough room for the stay, then next option is a buttress stay which is only a couple of feet away from the pole. A buttress stay has the wire vertical a couple of feet from the pole, and a bracket that holds the stay wire out the same distance at the top of the pole. All the horizontal strain on the top of the pole caused by the wires is translated into vertical strain on the stay wire via the bracket. When there isn’t any room for a buttress stay, then a strut leg is used on the side the wires are being pulled in. As is the case here.
Sounds horrible… But I just said the other day that way back when, I’d wanted to put coffee creamer in my vending machine chicken soup.
So… It might taste okay, in a pinch, and it might not, but one thing it is NOT is actual meat. There might be a few molecules in with the yeast extract, salt, and for most brands, a bit of beef fat.
It’s for flavor, not protein or nutrition. You could probably still call yourself a vegetarian if you had a cup.
Yeah, key lime is tops. Pecan is about fourth on my list, right after apple and cherry. The family (in Florida) likes to drizzle a bit of chocolate on their key lime pie. I can do without that.
Yesterday somebody…. Voxx, I believe, asked about a white building covered in graffiti type designs, alongside the rainbow painted road in one picture Nighthawks posted.
I was curious too, and hadn’t had a chance to Google the image to see where it was… so I did today.
It turns out that it’s the small town of Seydisfjordur, in the Northeast fjords of Iceland, only about 700 residents, but a tourist destination and known as an “art village”.
The rainbow road leads to a blue painted church, and is lined with art galleries, bars, shops and restaurants, dotted among the homes.
The white building is the Gullabuid gift shop, which sells art and souvenirs. I also discovered that the owner lives in the building, and rents the upstairs as an Airbnb, which gets very good reviews, in case you need a vacation.

“You have all my attention.”
Especially your hands.
I mean, your hands are so interesting… holding that..
…. that… say, that wouldn’t be a hamburger, would it?
Just curious… I mean, not that that’s what I’m interested in…
“Ball?”

…
Very helpful when you’re looking for the BLA.
I’m thinking this is some kind of sexist “joke” for labeling the restrooms…
Women, of course, being chatterboxes.
Oh, ha ha. Yeah, I see.
It’s been swell. See ya around.
Single bla side for me.
You’re gonna walk into the men’s room?
Most of the men I know are bla bla bla…

It’s not even a ladder, is it?
Still, i can understand taking the side path.
I don’t think it’s superstition as much as a sort of vague feeling of the precariousness of the overhead structure.
Like, why does it need a support, and will it fall on me?
It’s only a strut for an angle pole.

Still going around.

I suppose that is some sort of cut-and-paste/Photoshop/other. But it is still a great image for whatever imagined story is in the mind of the viewer.
Maybe they’re just lying down, head to head, and kitty chose to lie on doggo’s face.
I suspect that was a deliberate pose set up by humans–but not AI or manipulation

Boy, there’s a breathless pitch. Maybe, if you read the whole thing, you are somehow required to buy the binoc’s.

This is the lobby of the Fisher Building, in Detroit Michigan, a 30 story Art Deco office building, built in 1928, designed by architect Albert Kahn.
The Fisher family financed the building with proceeds from the sale of Fisher Auto Body to GM.
that would be the family of Carl Fisher, the developer of Miami Beach, the first cross-coast Lincoln Highway and the Indianapolis 500

Hot milk with beef bullion in it.

Yeah yeah…. joking. But honestly, not by much.
The only thing i’m putting in hot milk is chocolate.

Got em!

That was not fair. Now I’m hungry.
I’ve made 11 of these over the years. My favorite is still key lime pie.
Pecan for me.
I substituted walnut in one once. It was good!

Chocolate on key lime??? Blasphemy! 🙂
Cleo absolutely, positively, inevitably, had to conclude their exchange with a “Fetch me XXX” command.

That’s enough glamour for anybody, IMHO.
I just hate it when my opinion gets humbled
