This image appears to show a street vendor selling suspenders in New York City, captured in 1896 by pioneering photographer Alice Austen.
The photograph is part of Austen’s famous “Street Types” series documenting working-class New Yorkers.
The scene is set near the New York seaport around Wall and Front Street.
The vendor holds an armful of suspenders (also known as braces) with a sailing ship visible in the background.
But I’m not sure, because, while it’s vaguely a bit darker than its surroundings, there’s another similar marking, to the right and lower, that isn’t a recognizable symbol (AFAIK), so I’m not sure either is a number.
Sometimes when you search an image, you find out nothing.
Other times you find out too much. Like in this case, where I found more information than what fits a description of one picture.
Like… three titles, and two different media. Same artist though.
So this is either British artist, Derrick Fielding’s
“There She Goes”, 2023….. acrylic on canvas
Or… his oil on canvas “ The Night, or What Dreams Are Made Of”.
Each title and description was given on several websites… the third title was only mentioned once, so it’s probably incorrect.
Meanwhile, I thought it was going to turn out to be an illustration for the book Steve is alluding to… but no. He apparently just stole her and put her in his painting.

Plus 18 (The second person shakes the hand of the other 19 people after shaking the hand of the first) Plus 17, etc. until the next to last person shakes the hand of the last person. That would make 19 + 18 + 17 + 16 + 15 … down to 3 + 2.
The first doesn’t matter, it just semantics…. But for clarity… you correctly put “plus 18”, so I’m pretty sure you mean the 2nd person shakes the hand of the other 18 people …
However, the other thing is….. the 2nd to last person still has to shake the hand of the last person, so there’s +1 at the end, making 190.
I wanted to do it algebraically, but I couldn’t remember the formula, so I googled “combination of 20 taken 2 at a time”, which I think describes this situation, though I’m very rusty… and guess what… It’s 190.
So I’m thinking that’s right, until somebody more mathematical says otherwise.
Don’t forget it says only once… So when Tom shakes Dick’s hand, it no longer counts when Dick shakes Tom’s hand… and after they both shake Harry’s hand, he can’t count shaking either of theirs.
Eliminating the duplicates is what complicates the math.
I used to know formulas for this stuff, but when you don’t use something for decades, it (quite unfairly, if you ask me) falls right out of your brain.
The photo was taken when Homer was visiting him on the set of My Fair Lady, in 1963, which he did a lot because they were inseparable.
The Telegraph reported in 1998 that Mr Harrison confessed in an interview (hopefully a bit tongue in cheek) that he preferred Homer to any of his six wives, despite the dog’s reputation for being a little flatulent.
Yay! Today was supposed to be the last day of this heat wave we’ve been having… only 90°.
We’ve had more than a week of 95 or more, this week, hitting 100 or 101 Monday through Wednesday.
At least we don’t have the punishing humidity you get in other places. Since I’m without air conditioning, like most of us here, I don’t think I’d make it at 101° and humid. I am not good at hot weather.
Dropping back into the relatively safe 80s.
I may… that’s may…. turn back into a person soon. I’ll let you know.

It’s on the diagonal (Top left to bottom right), the numbers are not very plain/regular shapes.
