Looks like my last pack of cigarettes. I found it behind the fridge two weeks after I’d finally kicked the habit. Stuck it in a bucket of water so I wouldn’t be tempted!
A banana vendor on this side of the pond… It didn’t only happen in London.
This one is a bit earlier…. in Williamsburg, Brooklyn,. In the 1930s.
You know, if someone had a trade, I suppose the choice was obvious… If you can’t afford to have a shop, you tried to ply your trade on the sidewalk, if you could.
I mean, even then, you couldn’t legally cut hair or be a bartender, but you could sharpen knives, or, in those days, sell the bread you baked, or the fish you caught.
I understand being hired to sell newspapers, and eventually, owning a newsstand.
But how does one decide to sell only bananas…. or suspenders?
I always wonder.
You are correct about it happening in the 60’s…
A Google search: On March 18, 1965, a truck driver named Gene Sesky (also spelled Jean Sesi) lost control of his semi-truck carrying 30,000 pounds of bananas down the steep Moosic Street hill in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Due to a clutch or brake failure, the truck barreled out of control at high speeds, ultimately crashing into a house. Sesky tragically died in the wreck, but his desperate efforts to steer the runaway vehicle prevented a much larger catastrophe, saving numerous lives in the neighborhood.
I’ve read that he insisted on doing it himself… A lot of the people on the set, like stagehands and other actors, didn’t want to watch. They were so afraid they’d see him get hurt.
One take… cos it’s not something you want to keep doing.
He was fine.
I’m with Tigressy on this. Does routinely leave the fawn(s) in a safe place while they graze.
Like in my yard! This year we found one in the front perennial bed, nestled among the day lilies. Last year one was among the May apples in the backyard. And the triplets another hid under the junipers.
Even after I peeked at the solution, I can’t see it in the place the inset is pointing to.
The resolution isn’t as good in the whole image as it is in the enlarged circle. I can barely make it out in the latter, and it doesn’t really look right anyway.
There just aren’t enough pixels for me to see it at all, in the original image.
The problem is not just the resolution, but the fact that the solution is drawn in a way that’s hard to understand. It took me awhile to figure out.
It’s not a magnification of the area inside the circle, as you might expect. It’s a magnification of an uncircled area that the yellow tail on the circle is pointing to.
In that area, to the left of the yellow circle, and a little lower, you can make out the fuzzy outlines of what you’re supposed to be seeing, but it doesn’t coalesce into shape, because there aren’t enough pixels.
I tried to do an image, but as my tablet software has no circle-drawing tool, and I was trying to put the edges reasonably near the proper place, it’s awfully sketchy.
But hopefully, this shows
the duplicated area….
I’m not really sure why I’m bothering to hide it at this point… I’m not convinced anybody can actually see it.
The only branch I can see that’s missing is just covered up by the round insert pasted over it, showing.an enlargement of a different part of the picture.
Some cats do love poking their teeth into corrugated cardboard.
I’m not sure whether it was here, or more likely, just on YouTube, I saw a short video of a cat who made a mess out of any boxes that came to the house.
His owner brought him boxes just to tear up… If one got too tattered, she’d replace it
There are zillions of different posters, but, unlike a lot of stuff like this on the Internet, phoney quotes, lists of fake proverbs…
Gene Autry really did write the words.
I answered you back there, but in case you didn’t go back…
Thanks for letting me know about Pinterest.
I had no idea!
Everybody… No big secret or anything.
I posted a link to a little bit of video I found on Pinterest.
Tigressy showed me that when she went to look at it, Pinterest displayed my name and avatar… But I’ve never signed up for Pinterest, and still get pop-ups asking me to join.
It just shows that nothing is secret on the innerwebs.
As a retired bank Security Officer, let me just say that I have no sympathy for Mr. Ratliff. People who rob banks in this way (walk in the door and produce or threaten to produce a weapon) are not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier. In the modern world, they are usually junkies. Assuming the bank is federally insured, as almost all are, they get the FBI on their trail in addition to the local constabulary. In Texas, as we have seen, there are few if any guardrails. I hope that the Texas Banker’s Association would no longer be permitted to offer a bounty for their deaths, but, you know, Texas.
A number of years ago, there was an armed robbery of a bank in one of the Midwest states. I can’t remember which one. The robbers killed several bank employees. They were pursued relentlessly by the feds, the staties, and every local police force within reach of the news. In other words, every cop in the country was on the lookout for these guys. They were pursued on land and through the air and, had there been any need, over the water. They were caught within a week and, I assure you, were not treated gently by anyone. Assuming the state in which the crime was committed had the death penalty on the books, these guys got it. Whether or not it has been carried out, I have no idea.

How are we going to tell your Dad?
I mean, your Mom might be okay with it… but…
,
Very nice… but it looks like it’s not much bigger than life-size.
I bet I’d find a way to trip over it.

Where are all the hot dog stands?
…
Well… let’s see… nobody else is home…
Rats… those roses I picked are wilted….
I ate the last banana… looks like we’re out of apples…
But it’s raining, and I sure don’t feel like going to the store…
Damn! What am I going to paint?
Oh… I have an idea…. yeah, I know… but….
Looks like my last pack of cigarettes. I found it behind the fridge two weeks after I’d finally kicked the habit. Stuck it in a bucket of water so I wouldn’t be tempted!

4 hoods.
3 human, 1 on the car.
Yeah yeah… not in England.

Then again, I wonder a lot of things.
Photo is certainly not taken in Scranton Pennsylvania.
(Harry Chapin reference)
At least, not in the 1960s. 🙂
!
Lol… I know the song.
I almost posted it myself.
I just meant that AFAIK, the truck crashed in the 60s, so they may have still had plenty of bananas in the 30s.

Very famous shot.
It’s an actual wall… I mean, it’s made to fall down easily, but it’s real wood, not paper maché, or other imitations. Heavy. No glass, though.
I’ve read that he insisted on doing it himself… A lot of the people on the set, like stagehands and other actors, didn’t want to watch. They were so afraid they’d see him get hurt.

Poor baby… where’s Mama?
I know this is cute, but I doubt he knows that thing is supposed to look like a deer.
It’s shelter, but he needs Mama’s milk. Hopefully nobody used her for target practice!
Fawns hide in e.g. high grass while their mothers graze elsewhere.
Don’t touch them: their mothers would abandon them then.

We have a very wildlife friendly 3/4 acre.

Very active.
Yes.

same pic, just smaller
No. Look again.
It’s the same picture.
The problem is not just the resolution, but the fact that the solution is drawn in a way that’s hard to understand. It took me awhile to figure out.

Maybe Voxx?
In the first picture, there is a branch where in the second one is something else.

You’re welcome.
I try to spread information, not criticism.
