I love this picture… It’s actually not vintage, it’s a British ad, from 1984.
A butler (the caption I found says butler, but if it’s a restaurant, I’d say a waiter) serves a meal to a table of dogs in a Knightsbridge restaurant, to mark the launch of a new dog food.
“An Offering to the Old One”… Pen and ink, by Tyler Pennington, who goes by “Thecreepfromsixfeetdeep” on Instagram and wherever his work is credited.. though it’s often shown uncredited.
The funniest example I found, IMHO, was the site that labeled it a 19th century engraving. The young man in the picture is wearing running shoes, flared jeans, and a modern hooded jacket… looks like fleece to me… but you know how hard it is to recognize 19th century polyester fabrics.
As for Kraken vs. Cthulhu… I saw pages calling it one, other pages calling it the other. “The Old One” would seem to indicate Cthulhu, as would the hands, and maybe the eyes. He was supposed to be humanoid, though monstrous.
Krakens were depicted as purely sea creatures, usually giant octopuses or squid… apparently they could even be fish… but none bigger than could possibly exist in the ocean.
Lovecraft said Cthulhu was the size of a mountain… which makes this creature a bit small.
But he was intelligent (though fictional), and I’m not sure a kraken would think a pile of rocks was an offering. So I’m thinking Cthulhu… though honestly, a lot of people know more than me about it
Stel’s poster was meant to animate
Yes, native kibble on the Serengeti is very hard to find.

If you look at his tray, you’ll see the cans.

Which is why the utility companies warn you not to touch downed power lines… and still people end up in the hospital.
A few years ago, in a big storm, a line fell down about a block from here… someone named Hector tried to move it because it was blocking the sidewalk.
No, I didn’t know him… but for a while, there was a little memorial of flowers and balloons on that spot with his name on it.

OMG… I wondered why Nighthawks posted this… it’s so ordinary.
Came back to look at it again. Same… only wait… NOT the same 0.
Look again.
Who’s in the chair, and who’s standing behind it, hugging the person in the chair?

The kid wants the dog to pet him.
That’s sure what it looks like!

This is the Trenton New Jersey Farmers market, ca 1932.
Please, could you pick me up some of that asparagus?

Got it!

My Dad had ’em; I had ’em…
I didn’t like them much because they were newsprint paper, but that’s what little kids got.
I remember I wanted the kind with white paper, cos you could write darker on them. But they were 10ยข and Big Chiefs were a nickel.
My Dad said I could have a white tablet when I got rich. I didn’t get that it was a joke.
Mine didn’t have a bar code or an URL on them like the one in the picture.
Another difference… that one is $6.49 on Amazon. That’s $6.44 more than mine.

Interesting. Russia isn’t on the list.
MoreCats usually posts images about this time, and our paths barely cross… it’s the end marker to my C&Co night.
But I’ve been working hard on getting a little more sleep, so sometimes, like apparently tonight, they don’t cross at all.
Sorry, MCTS… I’ll have to catch em tomorrow.
